VIVISECTION

Some people think you're 'soft' if you care about animals but what's 'soft' about wanting to stop this?

Animals are blinded, scalded, electrocuted, paralysed, burned, maimed, driven mad, turned into drug addicts, and given diseases in animal experiments.

Animals are used to test a whole range of substances, such as weed killers, tobacco, cosmetics, polishes, hairsprays, and drugs.

Dogs are poisoned to death to test the 'lethal dosage' of such products as oven cleaners. Most companies still use unanaesthetised animals, who are force-fed or injected with enough of a product to kill 50% of the test animals within 14 days. Most of the animals haemorrhage to death.

Cosmetics, detergents and other household products are dripped into rabbit's eyes and are rubbed into the shaven skin of guinea pigs.

Public health and safety are jeopardised because researchers, encourage by the billion dollar animal supply industry, are reluctant to break away from old-fashioned, unreliable and costly animal testing methods.

For example, because researchers waited for results of animal tests, 20 million children's sleeping garments, treated with TRIS (a fire retardant) remain on the market 18 months after modern non-animal methods identified TRIS as a cancer causing agent.
The results of many experiments, including those conducted for medical research, cannot be applied to people.

Animals suffer without reason.

For example: The chances of a cure for most major cancers has not improved over the past 30 years and more people suffer from the disease than ever before. Yet still the major part of thousands of dollars spent annually by cancer charities goes to animal-based research.

Healthy animals continue to be sacrificed in search of wonder cures, when more careful preventative measures such as attention to diet and government control over pollution and chemicals, could greatly diminish cancer risk. An estimated 80% of all cancers are caused by social and environmental factors.

In Psychology research, animals are made deaf or blind, reared in darkness, kept in solitary confinement  or given a drug addition.  Experiments are repeated over and over again, so that a researcher can continue to receive grants or a student can gain  a degree. These cruel experiments are irrelevant to the solving of human problems.

Researchers are the ones who need examining!

The conclusions drawn from animal experimentation cannot accurately be applied to the human species.

Many alternatives already exist such as highly developed computer and mathematical models, cell and tissue cultures.  Emphasis must be placed on discovering and perfecting other alternatives.
